Christmas decorations are still sparkling on the high street and in many homes – it isn’t even Twelfth Night yet.

Yet in some supermarkets, Easter eggs have already appeared on the shelves. Shoppers in Bury were surprised to spot them in Tesco, days before Christmas decorations are due to come down.

Every year the same debate returns: is this commercialism getting out of hand, or simply retailers responding to demand? Many feel it’s far too early, while others just shake their heads in disbelief.
